A Preview of Divi Overlays, Our Brand New Plugin
Today I’m super excited to reveal a preview of a Divi plugin I’ve been working on for quite some time! Due to other commitments, I’ve had to put the project on hold for a while, but I’m finally very close to releasing Divi Overlays! And today, a first look at the upcoming plugin reveals what may be the most powerful and versatile plugin for Divi yet.
What is Divi Overlays?
Divi Overlays is a full screen overlay builder for Divi. Utilizing custom post types, Divi Overlays channels the power of the Divi Builder to create full screen— edge to edge overlays. Any content imaginable can be added to a Divi Overlay. And any content on your page can be a trigger for the overlay: text links, images, buttons, menu items, etc.
So what’s the benefit of adding overlays to your website?
The simplest answer to that question is it minimizes page loads. You can keep users on the same page while still giving them easy access to more content. If you can build it with the Divi Builder, you can put it in a Divi Overlay. 🙂
Divi Overlays is due out very soon! We’re just wrapping up the full demo site, documentation, and final tweaks to the plugin itself. If you’d like to be notified of the release of Divi Overlays, AND get a discount at launch, be sure to click below 🙂
That looks fantastic. Could you share the Plugin that you used for your auto complete search example?
Glad you like it! 🙂 Yes the autocomplete is done with https://searchiq.xyz/ — I’ll be doing a tutorial on how to set it up with a Divi Overlay in the future.
Looking forward to seeing the search tutorial!
Overlay looks fab. I just went live with a site I needed this on. I found another way to implement, but am looking forward to checking out your overlay in the future. This will really be a helpful tool now that Google’s cracking down on Intrusive Mobile Pop-Ups
Thanks Jules!:) Yes I have quite a few tutorials planned on Divi Overlays after launch including the autocomplete search, and some of the other things shown in the video 🙂
Please email us when you post it!
Hi Brandon! Yes, as long as you’re subscribed, you’ll be notified as soon as it goes live. And you’ll receive a 20% promo code too 🙂
Wow, yeah count me excited for that one too.
Thanks, Sidian. I’m happy to hear you’re excited for the plugin 🙂
Very nice. Excited to get this on our website.
Thank you! Can’t wait to release it in the wild! 🙂
Wahoo!! I’m gonna use the s*** out of this!! Nice work Tim 😀
Thanks Leslie! You’re one of the few that saw a preview before today 🙂
Hey!! Great video, Tim.
I can’t wait to try out that new plugin, I think you’re right when you say that it’s going to be a game changer. ¡Enhorabuena!
Thanks Pablo! That means a lot coming from you 🙂
Lovely features!
I’m glad to hear you like it Stefan!
Really nice 🙂
Thank you very much, Piotr 🙂
Looks beautiful. Looking forward to the release.
Thanks David! I am as well 🙂
Looks very elegant. I’m looking forward to this!
Congrats on a sweet add-on!
Thanks Erik! Looking forward to launching very soon!
Hi Tim
Looks absolutely fantastic. Congratulations I think you will be on a winner as usual.
One question.
When i was watching the video on this page I clicked outside the video and expected it to close.
It took a while to see the X in the top right corner.
Is it possible to have the X (or similar) in a more prominent place as well?
Hi Paul, Thanks for the compliments 🙂
And yes, you can change the location of the close button with CSS. I plan to add enhancements that allow you to add additional close buttons, text, etc, anywhere on a page, which would also allow clicking outside of the main frame to close the overlay too. That enhancement will probably be in version 1.1 though.
Your planned enhancements are critical for my use. Any idea as to when the next version will be released? BTW, I already purchased an unlimited license.
Thank you for your purchase Steve! No release date planned on the new features quite yet. We’ll be pushing out a bug fixes update within the next few days and then after that we’ll begin work on the next feature release 🙂
Hi, is clicking outside the main frame to close the overlay, already available?
Yes 🙂
Awesome Tim! Pumped to get my hands on this.
I can’t wait for you to get your hands on it either Steve! 🙂
Looks very promising
Thanks, Keith! I’m looking forward to it being a plugin that can be continuously improved with new enhancements, features, integrations, etc. 🙂
Wow, What a great job and a great plugin Tim, Sign me up!!!
Thanks so much for the kind words, Jordan! I’m glad to hear you like the plugin 🙂
Wow!
🙂
Looks yummy – I can think of a bunch of uses for this – very exciting
Thanks Susanne! Yes the goal was to make it extremely versatile for all kinds of things 🙂
Looks amazing. What is the expected release date? I am working on a project right now and this would be perfect.
Hi Adam, great question. It will be at least a week, but hopefully not longer! 🙂
Wow! Looks impressive… It looks as though it would kick some websites up a notch.
Thanks for the kind words, Susan! 🙂
Looks really good and something we will definitely be using.
That’s great to hear, Dennis. Thanks for the encouraging words 🙂
Wow, That was a Nice One. Look forward to get this ?
I’m very glad to hear it, Stefan. I can’t wait to get it launched so you can use it 🙂
Tim, proper game changer this one!
Usability is key, if it’s simple to use you will be a very rich man.
Thanks, Jonathan. And yes, I completely agree on the usability. I originally built something similar into a client’s website and that’s what prompted me to build a plugin version so it would be easy for anyone! 🙂
Great job! I can add only this: https://i3.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/264/241/9e9.gif
Thx
haha! That’s hilarious, Ferenc. Thank you for the encouragement 🙂
Hey Tim
Can’t wait to see this in action on my site and yes on my clients sites too… goes without saying!!!
Thanks Tejas! I can’t wait for you to use it on your client sites either 🙂
This is modal on steroids. Love it! Will it work with Divi Builder Plugin, too? or just Divi Theme?
That’s a great way to describe it! Yes, it will work on Divi, Extra, and any theme using the Divi Builder plugin 🙂
It looks fabulous!! This is going to be a big seller (and I’ll be first in line). Nice work.
Thanks so much Sarah! That means a lot coming from you 🙂
Awesome plugin! Looking forward to the release. Take my money now! Lol
haha! Thanks Paka! 🙂
Looks really good sir. Well done. Posting to a few spots where Divi nerds hang out…
Thanks Jared! I appreciate you sharing it 🙂
Looks awesome, gonna try that out for sure.
Thanks, Eddie! I’m glad you like it 🙂
So excited for this to launch!!!
Thank you, Simone! I assure you I’m very excited too. Can’t wait for people to get their hands on it 🙂
That looks brilliant! Looks like it will make it that much easier to make dynamic and engaging sites.
I’m glad you think so, Andy! That’s definitely the goal 🙂
Looking useful! Am I missing something, or is there supposed to be a link to a demo somewhere?
Hi Bjarne, there’s no official demo site yet. But on the blog post there’s two sample overlays— the video, and the email subscribe for the discount. 🙂
Come on Tim. Launch that plugin already! I have a 110 uses for it lined up. 🙂
haha! 🙂 That’s great to hear!
Looks great Tim!
Does it work on mobile?
Hi Ger, yes it absolutely works on mobile, thanks to the responsive styling already built into the Divi builder 🙂
This is looking really good. Being able to combine an overlay with the divi builder just makes our life that little bit easier.
Good Job. I will be purchasing for sure.
That’s great to hear, David. I appreciate your encouraging words. 🙂
Wow just wow … can wait to see the demo of how its all put together… clever lad
Thank you, Leisa. Stay tuned for the demo 🙂
This will be a game changing plugin that will boost divi beyond imaginable. Great work Tim. When can we expect to have our hands on this wonderfull plugin?
Thank you, Boris. That means a lot! It will be a least a week, but hopeful not much longer than that. I definitely want you to get your hands on it as soon as possible 🙂
We watched your video and can immediately think of several uses for the overlay. Looking forward to giving it a go.. Thank you!
That’s great to hear! Making it as versatile as possible was definitely the goal!
Excited to see how this works with the WooCommerce, specifically the Cart. No more page refresh? Being able to instantly see cart contents would be a huge benefit, versus a page reload.
What about the Checkout page? And SSL?
YES! I completely agree! Yes, using an overlay for the cart will eliminate the need for a page refresh just to view the cart. As for the checkout, currently if you click on the checkout button from the cart overlay, it will go to the checkout page. I’m sure in the future we could configure a way to load the checkout via ajax inside the overlay without having to reload the page. And as long as your whole site is SSL, then it will be fully secure.
It looks really great – a must have for all Divi workers!
Thanks, Judith! I couldn’t agree more! 😉
great Tim I can not wait!
Thanks, Claudia! I can’t wait either 😉
Hi Tim,
Adding to my previous comment that hasn’t been approved yet, if you could somehow go from Cart to Checkout without ever leaving the overlay, that would be genius.
Yes I just responded to your first comment! The cart to checkout in the same overlay isn’t possible yet (at least I don’t think), but that’s something I’m going to look into heavily for the future. I agree, that being able to view the cart, and checkout from the same overlay without leaving the page would be amazing for user experience. I assure you this is a feature I’ll be absolutely making a priority 🙂
Wow! Looks amazing and I’m thinking of a 100 uses for it. What about the SEO aspect of content in the overlay? Will googlebot be able to crawl it?
Hi Mike! I’m glad to hear you like the plugin. And great question about the SEO. So the content of the overlay will definitely be crawled by search engines for each page that the overlay is on. Even though the overlay is only shown when the trigger is activated, the content is always in the HTML, which is what the search engines scan. You can think of it similar as as toggle/accordion, or tabbed content where the content is there, even though it’s hidden until opened.
When can I buy it?
Hi Steve, we’re definitely working hard to launch as soon as possible. It will be at least a week, but hopefully not much longer than that.
Hi Tim!
this is something that was missing, so I’m sure will soon be one of the must-have for Divi. I’m sure it will be really cool!
In the past I have spent a lot of time to create something similar for my clients, so this will save me so much time.
Great job as always Tim. I hope one day of keen shake hands. 🙂
Thank you, Fabio! That means a lot coming from you! And I too hope we can shake hands in person someday in the not so distant future 🙂
Waiting…
😉
LOL! It’s coming soon, I promise 🙂
Hey Tim!
Will this plugin allow the layer to pop up as an exit- intent layer?
Hi Mario,
Great question. It won’t have that functionality in the initial release. However, I do plan on adding a whole suite of automated triggers including exit-intent, as well as other common ones such as timed delay, and after the user scrolls a defined percentage of the page, etc.
Thanks!
I’m really looking forward to this! It looks just great
Thanks Mario! It will hopefully be ready soon 🙂
Looks great! Looking forward on its release
Thanks Dean! 🙂
Hi Tim,
I need this plug-in like yesterday. Are you close to releasing? Days…weeks? Great job!
Thanks,
Miladys ;O)
I would say somewhere between days and a week! 🙂
Great to hear! I’ll see if I can stall my client until then! ;O)
Will this work with the Extra Theme?
Excellent question, Josh! And yes it will work with Divi, Extra, or any website that has the Divi Builder plugin activated 🙂
Great!!! Can’t wait. What will be the cost?
AMAZING EXTENSION TO DIVI!! CAN’T WAIT 🙂
Thanks so much Heather! 🙂
Whoa I’m ready for this to arrive! Any ballparks for the release? ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
Thanks Bob 🙂 — The release date is scheduled for Wednesday the 15th 🙂
Awesome!
Release It……. please
When will this be released? I will gladly buy this plugin! Awesome job.
I’m glad to hear you like it! The release date is scheduled for this coming Wednesday, February 15 🙂
Hi Tim,
I’m really looking forward to use this plugin. I reckon February the 15th didn’t work out? 🙂
Would you like to give us an update about the (new) release date?
Keep up the good work!
Had a bit of a delay, but it’s released today 🙂 — https://divilife.com/divi-overlays-now-available/
Yay its Feb 15th which means it’s my BIRTHDAY and I am gonna get me this as a present to myself!! Can’t wait to use it on a project I am working on.
We were a bit behind and a day late, but it’s available now! https://divilife.com/divi-overlays-now-available/
Where’s the product and take my money already!
haha! 🙂 Here it is: https://divilife.com/divi-overlays-now-available/
Hi Tim,
has the release date slipped. If so can we have a revised ETA?
Tim…………….. take my money, take it, take it.
I can’t wait to play with this plugin.
It’s released! 🙂 — https://divilife.com/divi-overlays-now-available/
Looks awesome to me too, but you have haven’t released it yet Tim?
I have now, as of today 🙂 — https://divilife.com/divi-overlays-now-available/
Nice work on the overlay. I see many possibilities with it.
However, do you know how Google will react to it as they becoming more strict towards popups and such.
Hi Ryan, thanks for the great feedback. Yes, Google is cracking down on “intrusive popular” on mobile. But these Overlays won’t be considered intrusive because the Overlays are triggers by the user. Although we do plan on adding automatic triggers, they won’t display on mobile (or at least not by default). Lastly, we’ve been testing Divi Overlays here on the Divi Life website for a few months now, and our ranking and traffic from Google are doing better than ever 🙂
Hi Tim, I purchased Divi Overlays today and it looks absolutely amazing….can’t wait to start using it and looking forward to seeing how this will develop over the coming months and years. Amazing plugin, thank you!
Thanks Robert! Yes, there’s a lot planned! 🙂
Is the exit intent version of this ready? That is so lacking for Bloom 🙂
Almost! Exit Intent as well as many other new features will be launching in Divi Overlays 2.0 very soon! We’re hopefully just a couple weeks away 🙂
That’s the probably the coolest Divi plugin I’ve ever seen. Sold 🙂
Thanks!! Glad you think so!!! 🙂
HI Tim I just need a tutorial for an image with text and link trigger? Pls help. Thanks
Hi Pablo,
Our Getting Started Video and tutorial show you to create an overlay and use a text link as a trigger 🙂
Loving the new plugin, I used it to build overlays for my CCTV & Video Redaction Specialist website to help users to ask questions quickly and easily without leaving the page.
We have received over 900 submissions via the over lay in the last 12 months with enquiries for our CCTV and Forensic redaction services from around the world. Great Job Guys!
Awesome, that’s great to hear!! 🙂
