Using Previous Saved Layouts With Divi Overlays

Want to use a Divi Library layout in a Divi Overlay? This workaround will do the trick!

FAQ: “Why are my previously saved Divi Library layouts not showing up for Divi Overlays?”

Divi Overlays is what is known in WordPress as a “custom post type” and Divi currently gives each custom post type their own separate Divi library for saved layouts. In other words, layouts saved in pages, will not show up for Divi Overlays when adding a layout form the library, and vice versa. This is not a limitation of Divi Overlays, but a limitation in the way the Divi Library currently functions. This is true when using the Divi Builder with any custom post type.

So is there a way around this?

Yes! There’s a workaround that will allow you to use layouts saved in pages/posts or other custom post types for Divi Overlays.

  1. First, go to the page where you have designed the layout you’d like to use in Divi Overlays. If the layout is only saved in the Library, then create a new page, add the layout to the page, but don’t click publish.
  2. Next, click the portability icon in the builder (up and down arrow icon in the top right corner of the builder).
  3. Give the layout a name, and export it to your computer.
  4. Now, go to the Divi Overlay that you’d like to use the layout in, and import the layout using the same method in step 3 (portability icon).
  5. Make any additional changes, set up the overlay options, click publish!

It’s worth noting that if you save the layouts to the Divi Library FROM a Divi Overlay, you’ll be able to use the layout in other Divi Overlays, but not in other post types.
